Found in the heart of central NC, Historic Yates Mill County Park serves as an excellent place to capture gorgeous engagement photography portraits any time of the year...

Be it spring, summer, autumn or winter, there is no bad time of year to visit this park to take photos with my clients. From the Old Mill and the surrounding cobblestone path to the long bridges stretched across a placid lake there are tons of opportunities for creating superb natural backdrops in my photos. 

Usually the best time of day to take pictures is after 4pm since the late afternoon light casts just the right angle to highlight all of the lovely colors found in the surroundings. Tones of greens, golds, blues and sometimes reds and fiery oranges provide just the right pop of color in the background depending on what season I am shooting in. My personal favorites are spring and autumn but it's hard to choose a preference based on the time of year since every month here at Yates mill holds a certain charm.

The waterfall next to the grist mill is a great location within the park to capture a few special portraits, especially after a rainstorm since the waterfall will be overflowing with the runoff of rainwater. This looks really cool in pictures, especially when shooting a long exposure! Even in the wintertime its worth it to make a stop here because sometimes the waterfall is frozen over with giant ice columns. Pretty sweet!

Another neat spot is in the giant wheat field found at the edge of the park. This location is awesome in the springtime, such a pretty spot under a preferably party sunny sky with emerald grass stretching into the horizon. Its also with noting that although this location requires a short hike to get to the exact spot the walk on the way there usually provides it's own photo opportunities while strolling along the forested path.

Yates Mill Park provides a number of footbridges that span the length of the large pond. These bridges are wonderful for capturing some interesting portraits of my clients from both a close range and from far away. The lines of the planked walkways provide a punch and unique symmetry to every photo taken here, especially on a cloudy day or on a early summer afternoon.
