An evening on the farm, wedding photography in Clinton North Carolina

What a joy it is to be a wedding photographer here in central North Carolina!

From the mountains to the coast, it has been really cool to have the opportunity to work with so many happy couples and their families from all over this beautiful state. I have been traveling down to the Clinton NC area quite a bit lately, I've photographed 3 different weddings there in just the past month alone. This is farm country. The land is a colorful patchwork with rows of corn, soybean, and tobacco stretching from the horizon to horizon. There are lots of green fields dotted with cows and horses with a few chickens that literally cross the roads every now and again.

The story of how I ended up taking pictures at this lovely wedding in Clinton on a sunny evening a few weeks ago actually started last November with an engagement session at Harris Lake Park with my clients A & L.

This sweet couple wanted to hold their engagement session at a park location that would allow them to bring their dogs and Harris Lake was just the perfect place to do this. We had a great time getting to know one another and their doggies were just the most adorable furry kids ever to sit'n stay in front my lens.

A few months later L. wanted to hold her bridal portrait session on her Moms farm so that we could include her horse in a couple of her photos. Omg so great!!!

Although storms were forecasted that day, we were lucky that the weather stayed clear enough that we could take advantage of the setting sun during the golden hour to capture some really beautiful portraits.

What a treat! I love horses and really enjoyed being able to get out into the country to spend time with L., her mother, and her gorgeous horse.

Finally, A. and L.s wedding day arrived!

I had been looking forward to seeing my clients again and was super excited about the prospect of taking pictures at the farm once more.  I arrived at the family's church in the morning just a few hours before the wedding started to take some pics of L. and her bridesmaids getting ready for the day. It is really something special to be able to document the transformation of my clients as they prepare themselves to meet one another at the altar. At one point I captured a series of photos of the groom opening a gift from his bride shortly before the ceremony began. He was moved to tears in these quiet moments and honestly it was everything I could do not to wipe away a few of my own as I photographed A. wipe away his. The wedding ceremony was short but sweet and there was plenty of laughter and tears to go around throughout. When the deal was sealed with a kiss the guests broke out into applause as A. & L. took their first steps onto the aisle as husband and wife.

After the family and wedding party formal portraits were taken at the church we all headed out to the reception at the family farm. A. & L. shared a romantic first dance and then settled in to have dinner with their guests. Once they were finished eating we set off to a corner pasture to capture the couples portraits as the sunset behind the trees.

Once again I was able to photograph the lovely couple with their beautiful horse. The only down moment to be had was when I went to stroke the horse's velvety nose I inadvertently touched my wrist on the electric fence. Haha, I got zapped by the wire and boy oh boy was that an experience! Luckily it did it hurt too much and honestly, I felt lucky that I didn't short out my cameras electronics in the process.

The reception was a blast to photograph! So many happy people laughing and dancing made my job easy when I set out to capture the candid moments of A & L celebrating with their friends and families. A reception like this is my favorite part of taking pictures on a wedding day. It’s really cool to be around people having a great time with one another, such a joy to be able to capture the feelings of something special like this event.

Check out the photos from A & Ls wedding day and I think you’ll agree that there is simply nothing better than a wedding day in the heart of Carolina!
