Wedding reception photography~

  It's an amazing thing to get to be a wedding photographer these days. With zoom lenses and GoPros I'm able to to grab amazing candid photos of people having fun without becoming part of the action. Most of the time I can be found hugging the walls at a wedding reception trying my best to blend into the background. I search the crowd through my viewfinder looking for the moment when the punchline is told, when heartfelt advice is passed or even when that ONE DUDE breaks bad on the dance floor. I can't tell you how awesome it is to be able to capture people at their happiest moments!!!

Having proper flashes and light diffusers both on and off camera is key when dealing with the often multi colored or dark lighting situations that exist at most wedding receptions. Its important to be able to throw enough even light on your subject so that utilizing a higher ISO setting  isn't needed ( I generally don't like to create the grainy pics which are common when shooting at ISOs of 1600 or more). 

I've found that those big white outdoor "event tents" create  the best conditions for nighttime reception photos as I can bounce my flash off of the ceilings and walls in a most pleasing manner. Low white ceilings are great too but since I use several different light diffusers on my camera mounted and off camera flashes I can throw any amount of pleasing light that I need to grab those shots of your guests doing the Cupid Shuffle, even outside under the stars where there is nowhere to bounce my light.
