I was so happy when a few days ago a past client of mine contacted me to ask if we could schedule a Christmas photo session next month...

Why? After all I am an engagement and wedding photographer, right? You see, "S" and her (now) husband "N" are one of my favorite couples that I have had the opportunity to photograph. We met this past spring in downtown Fayetteville NC at the train station to capture a vintage-inspired engagement session.

This photoshoot was special because it was truly a collaborative experience as I got to work with clients who already had a specific "creative vision" in mind when they hired me. This is typically not the case as most of my current clients rely on me to deliver a "style" of photography that is most reflected here on my website, bright, bold and colorful. S & N wanted something different from my usual. What was this request? Vintage inspired imagery. A style of something I had never even thought of trying before but Lord knows I love a challenge so I said yes!

Preferring to use my flash for every session, this photoshoot was a first for me as I shot this afternoon mostly using available natural light when we were outside because I wanted the delivered images to feel as 'old school as possible. I am so grateful that S &N were so patient with me as it took me a little longer than usual to select the proper exposures to capture these photos. It was really cool for me to take these photographs while picturing them as an end result of a grainy, sepia or tinted final image because it forced me to look at my photo capture and processing in a completely different way than I usually do. 

 S and N were dressed beautifully and the choice in attire complemented those lovely smiles nicely. As a photographer, I absolutely love it when my clients are as excited as I am about photoshoots. Attitude makes all the difference in the world when it comes to capturing a great photo! I think that it is clear that S & N's sunny personalities shone through in the photographs that we took as brightly as any flash could illuminate.
