Anticipating the unexpected is my job.

With posed portraiture, I'm provided with a clear vision for the end result before the shutter is released. It's just a technical matter that is wrapped up in artistic mindset to deliver beautiful images. As an artist, I love the creative process of making gorgeous photographs for my couples, the challenge of creating a jaw dropping portrait in any situation is a blast to work through.

It is, however, the unscripted moments of connection which just feel like more valuable images in the long run. You know, the real stuff, the unplanned and unforced photograph's which seek document and preserve the emotion encountered throughout the day. The unexpected image that tell's the story best.

When taking candid shots, I'm working from a place of anticipation of the unexpected image. This forces me to be 100% aware of my surroundings and focus at the moment so that I can read a scene correctly from a creative perspective. The big stuff, the small stuff and all those details in between. This mindset makes me grateful for every gleam of useable light, every smile, each tear and joyful thing. It is incredibly awesome to literally look for the good in people every time I compose a frame. It is not always easy, but it is by far the most rewarding way to earn the right to capture and preserve a millisecond in time.
 That is why the photographs which aren't on any "shot list" are my favorite kinds to seek out and capture.
