A family portrait session at Harris Lake Park

Wow. As if I didn’t miss my *normal* wedding photographer life enough, this past weekend’s photo shoot just about made me cry I was so happy. See, here’s the thing. Due to impact of that damn virus, I’ve really missed the interaction I get with couples like Orlando & Saroya. I never got the opportunity to photograph their wedding day this past spring so we ended up doing a family session instead. These wonderful people and their kids mean the world to me. That moment when I showed them the photos I’d just taken on the back of my cameras...to see their eyes light up and to hear them say wow, just melts my heart. They make me feel like I’m doing something special, just for them, like the technical and artistic choices I make actually do make a lasting impact in someone else’s life. There’s nothing like quite like it. Weddings are exciting to me. There’s a lot of pressure to get things perfectly right the first time and I LOVE that “stress”. Even after 14 years of covering weddings, each and every wedding day forces me to be better than I was the week before. Today, there’s no lighting situation I can’t handle, no controlling aunt Karen’s I can’t wrangle, no weather I can’t shoot through and no photo location that I can’t turn into someplace magical for my couples. It’s the challenges of this genre that I thrive on. These months of no weddings have made me appreciate my “job” more than ever. To my 2020 brides and grooms... Cheers to each and every one of you who have stuck with me this challenging year. Your weddings this autumn and winter are going to be gorgeous and I can’t wait to be the one who captured your day. In the mean time, I’ll be out there in the woods and swamps getting bird pics. My photographic skills will remain sharp and I’ll be ready to take on whatever the next season brings for you! Thank you for choosing me to be your wedding photographer. Photos by @sally_siko of on the fabulous full frame SLR, the @canonusa #5Ds
