Historic Yates Mill Park http://www.wakegov.com/parks/yatesmill/Pages/default.aspx is a fantastic place for shooting wedding and engagement photography portraits. It holds a rustic charm that is undeniably Old North Carolina in the midst of contemporary suburban progress. Its cobblestone path and moss covered wood planked working grain mill make for lovely backdrops along with a shimmering lake that changes it's hue as the hours pass.
I had the chance to shoot here for three days in a row in October of 2012. There were three separate sets of clients and three distinct sets of lighting conditions. It was really neat to see how the same location could change visually depending on the time of day and the weather.
First up, J & C. http://sallysiko.zenfolio.com/yatesmillparkengagementphotographyjandc We held the session at 4:45 in the evening under partly cloudy skies that occasionally would shoot bright beams of spotty sunlight down as the dark clouds occasionally parted.

The second session was held at 10 am in the morning with my "about to be married clients" J & A http://sallysiko.zenfolio.com/yatesmillparkweddingphotography . They were to tie the knot just three days after this shoot, a wedding that I regrettably could not cover for them because of a prior booking. The weather was warm and the skies were blue with an occasional white puffy cloud or two.

The last session was held at 9 am on a very cloudy day. http://sallysiko.zenfolio.com/yatesmillpondparkengagementphotographyraleigh The silver glow from the rain promising skies was the perfect lighting complement for the bright white dress my client wore to match her fiance's shirt. They stood out against a backdrop of subdued colors of newly changing autumn leaves like beacons. My personnel opinion, I like the results of this shoot the best because the flat skies ensured a nice even light source that was very easy to manage.
