A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to photograph Winnie & Eddie's Tea Ceremony at Cary's newest event venue, Chatham Station. I have always wanted to photograph a Chinese wedding and was touched by the moments of warmth and laughter shared between the couple and their guests throughout the evening.

We started the afternoon by capturing a "First Look" moment bewteen Winnie and Eddie at the venue and then moved on to explore the streets of downtown Cary so that I could grab the couple's portraits before their ceremony began.

Knowing that Eddie is a fan of wall murals and graffiti art, the bride and I actually met up in Cary about a month ago to scope out some possible photo locations featuring the colorful background that she wanted to be reflected in these pictures. (Btw, I love it when my couples consider having their portraits captured in a meaningful location!) We found three spots within easy walking distance that turned out to be absolutely perfect for Winnie's requests.

The sun was sinking low in the sky once we made it back to the venue, the light was just gorgeous as it filled the interior of Chatham Station with a warm glow. Guests were now arriving and soon it would be time for the ceremony to start.

Gregg and I took a ton of pictures because oh my goodness, there were just so many moments of connection shared between the couple and their families during the ceremony. The presentation of the tea, the gift exchange, and the heartfelt blessings were simply wonderful instances to capture.

When the ceremony concluded, I photographed the families and even grabbed a few extra pics of the bride and groom once the sun had set. Omg, Winnie's Mom was just cracking me up! Lol, she was absolutely on point with keeping the group on task during the family formal portraits. Absolutely loved it! I want this woman to come with me to every wedding! :)

Now it was party time! The venue was filled to the brim with guests enjoying cocktail hour and everyone was in high spirits as the reception began. There were opportunities for candid photos as well as a few requests for some fun group pics. The First Dance's were especially sweet to capture as the couple enjoyed these once in a lifetime moments on the dancefloor.

Wrapping up the night with one last photo of the couple, I thought about how much Eastern and Western wedding day's have in common with one another. Yes, the details of the day are different from each other, yet, the emotions, the sentiment, and the loving connection shared between the couple and their families are the same. With both traditions, it feels like a marriage it is about honor, commitment, support, and love. I think that is pretty cool :)
