Yates Mill Park in Raleigh for engagement sessions

Yesterday I took the opportunity to head over to Yates Mill Park for a quick hike around the pond. This is a location that I often use for engagement sessions, especially in the fall and spring. It’s a nice spot with a water fall and beautiful forest to explore with decent chances of spotting local wildlife. I gotta say that it was pretty nice to get out there at this time of year since the park was nearly empty. Definitely a nice break from the usually packed trail conditions that the warmer months bring! Btw, I also uploaded my first video to IGTV which I do NOT recommend you watch, haha! It was awkward as hell but kinda fun too :) I definitely have to remember to clear my voice before starting, lol! Yikes!!! Anyway, I think that I might start making short videos of the behind the scenes stuff and more of my weekly hikes around here a regular thing going forward. Hopefully I’ll get used to the “omg I’m putting myself out there” fear factor and will make less cringeworthy videos as the year progresses... This portrait was taken last March at Yates Mill. 100% honesty, it was a difficult session to photograph because I scheduled the shoot too late in the morning and that sun was fierce!!! Harsh light and brown tones washed out everything, it was killing my style. Thank goodness I knew of a spot in the park where there were trees that still provided a little shade and color to frame my couple. Next time I book an early spring session at Yates Mill, I’ll start the morning much earlier, lesson learned :) The subsequent pics of the waterfall and birds in this post were taken there yesterday.
