The joy that comes from getting out, and up, there

Although I was raised in the busy suburbs of Northern VA, I and spent much of my youth hiking, camping and exploring the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains. I still smile recalling the memories of building excitement during the drive down Route 66 West and then south on Rt. 522 towards Shenandoah National Park. From the car window, I’d watch the landscape change from crowded neighborhoods to wide pastures dotted with cows to gently rolling hills and rocky terrain. I’d eagerly anticipate the moment when those lovely blue mountain peaks would come into view as we crested a hill somewhere around the The Plains area. This was always the fastest 2 hour drive I’d ever take and it was rarely made without stopping at a certain gift shop in Sperryville VA to have lunch and occasionally buy mountain themed stuff. My brother and I would eat the sandwiches our mom packed at a picnic table and then we would be given $5 to spend how we wished inside. The final stage of this journey along Skyline Drive was my first encounter with an adrenaline rush. Ears popping, my heart would race as we made our way along increasingly winding roads higher and higher into the sky. Those banked hairpin turns and the steep drop offs were scary but oh, so much in a good way! 🌲 Today, these happy memories come rushing back whenever I point my car west on I-40 towards Asheville. My family and I made central North Carolina our home about ten years ago and we enjoy spending our free time traveling in our RV from the Raleigh area to the Smokies. From Boone to Banner Elk, we are ever in search of adventures and exploring new paths in WNC. I still love the mountains and have never lost that feeling of excitement and joy that comes from getting out, and up, there. Although I adore photographing most every kind of wedding day, I specialize in capturing outdoor ceremonies because it is there where I feel like the very best of my creative self comes though :) . . . #weddingphotography #shenandoahnationalpark #ncweddingphotographer #raleighweddingphotographer #ashevilleweddingphotographer #skylinedrive #blueridgemountains #rt66 #ncmountainwedding #outdoorwedding #sperryvilleva #raleigh #asheville #ncoutdoor
