I LOVE my job! It is an absolute dream to have the opportunity to earn a living by taking pictures of awesome people and amazing wildlife.
You may have noticed that I don't put allot of crazy filters on my couples wedding and engagement portraits. The reason why is that I process my clients photos the same way that I edit the pictures I take for my wildlife captures. I believe that it is most important to highlight the authentic natural beauty found in nature and document real moments of connection shared between couples without trying to create a false color narrative of the scene before me.
Engagement portraits should reflect your authentic selves and the bond of your relationship. Your wedding day is a once in a lifetime event. As we grow old together, even the brightest of memories from your wedding day will fade. Thinking long term, what is more valuable to you, a timeless perfect memory captured in all of the real hues of the day or a trendy-tone staged snapshot? In my opinion, applying fake color filters on all of my couples engagement & wedding pictures for the sake of (me) marketing an "Instagram aesthetic" to get new clients is stupid. Plus all of those cheesy orange and teal filters will make YOUR photographs look dated in 3 years. Yikes!
Weather it's properly toning the exact hues of a Hummingbirds gorgets (those shiny colorful feathers on their throats) or making sure that the peonies in your bridal bouquet are the exact same hue of purple in your photos as they are in real life, I believe that that the authenticity of your photographs should matter. After all, these are YOUR engagement and wedding day photographs, not my personal art project or marketing campaign.
It really is about YOU. Not me.

Here are a few pics of what has been going on in September here at Silvercord Event Photography and my other company, Bird Watching N.C. It's been an awesome month, filled with lovely photo moments captured in the woods, gardens, parks and beyond. This is a good example showing the similarities of natural color and documentary photo style which encompass the breadth of my portfolio of work.
Be sure to check back here next week to see some of the gorgeous photographs from an engagement session at the J.C. Raulston Arboretum!
