Wedding photography at Ft. Fisher NC and at the Atrium in Wilmington NC

The Atlantic was calm and serene when I arrived at Historic Ft. Fisher Park on a partly cloudy but pleasant afternoon on a Saturday a few weeks ago, feeling relaxed and happy because I was about to photograph another beach wedding here on the coast of North Carolina.  I gathered my gear and headed out to the beach area to get started and was immediately struck by how smooth the ocean's surface was. It looked like glass with little strips of threaded cotton lining the shore where the breakers met the sand. Making my way to the ceremony spot I was surprised to see that the chairs and the ceremonial sand table were set up under (and beside) the oak trees on shore rather then out on the sand. This was absolutely awesome since those amazing trees would make for a lovely wedding photography back drop during the ceremony.

It wasn't long until I took a few shots of the guests arriving and was able to photograph some nice candid moments between them as they chatted and swapped stories and hugs before the ceremony began. Within a  few minutes my client E. arrived with his groomsmen in tow ( plus a 4 legged best man, 'er dog), looking sharp wearing grey suits and bright smiles.

When my other client  arrived to take the walk down the isle with her Mom I photographed E. catching sight of his bride A. for the first time. He had tears in his eyes as she made her way up the isle to his side. It was a real joy to be able to capture all the moments that followed during the short but sweet ceremony. Once the vows were exchanged, the sand was poured and the deal was signed with a kiss, E. & A. held a nice reception line in the shade under the trees.

Formal family portraits were captured in the grove in the shade while the other guests went on to the reception. Now that the congratulations had been said and everyone got a hug from the happy couple we headed down to the water area to photograph a few pic's of the wedding party and of the happy couple. Access to the actual sand on the beach here at Ft. Fisher is somewhat difficult because of the giant boulders that line the shoreline ( placed here to fight beach erosion) so we took these group photos next to, on and around the rocks.

My clients and I had finished taking pics with the wedding party and also captured a few lovely portraits under the green canopy of the oak grove, E. & A. decided that we should head on down to the spot where E. proposed to A. on a bench at the boardwalk in nearby Carolina Beach to take some beautiful couples portraits at the exact spot where this all started. This was a cool idea and I was happy to oblige!

Reception time was nearly upon us so we made our way to The Atrium in downtown Wilmington. This venue is very pretty and blends a bit of contemporary styling with a kind of outdoor Zen garden feel. The natural lighting couldn't have been more perfect and the smiles that I was able to photograph of my clients and their guest having fun sparkled with the setting sun which reflected off of all the ivy covered walls.

All in all it was an amazing evening filled with love, laughter which truly reflected the joyful and loving hearts of this happy couple and the peaceful landscape that surrounded them on their special day.
