Wedding photography at the Wake County Courthouse and the Rose Garden in Raleigh NC
I love photographing small intimate weddings! For one thing there is usually ample time to capture the couples portraits which allows me extra time with my clients to get some really beautiful photos without having to watch the clock too much and the candid portraits are very easy to get since most of the people in attendance typically know each other well enough to relax and truly have a great time at the wedding. This small wedding that I photographed at the Wake County Courthouse and the Rose garden at the Little Theater in downtown Raleigh was no exception to that rule as I truly enjoyed every moment spent with my clients L & K and their families.
Getting the marriage licenses at the wake county Courthouse
L & K exchanged their vows at the Wake County Courthouse in downtown Raleigh. This was the first wedding that I've photographed here and I have to say that it was was really cool to follow them around as they picked up their marriage license and then suppressed the butterflies as they then headed upstairs to the courtroom where they would be wed.
The judge was cheerful and I could tell that he really enjoyed this type of work which was a nice surprise that showed up in each photo of the ceremony. After the ceremony we took a few photos in front of the courthouse which ended up looking pretty epic despite the presence of the constant flow of pedestrian traffic.
The couples portraits were shot at the Rose Garden at the Little Theater downtown. I was initially apprehensive because it was the middle of the day when we captured these photos ( the middle of the day is the worst time to take pictures because of the angle of the sun creates unflattering shadows ) however we managed to take a few really pretty photographs for there wedding photography album by utilizing the shady trees that lined the garden.
We then headed to The Big Easy restaurant downtown so that I could capture a couple candid images of the bride and groom with their families during their reception dinner. Its as really cool to see how happy L & T were as they joked and shared phone pics with their families while they waited for the food to arrive.
I am surprised that I haven't seen more wedding photography examples of people getting married at the Courthouse here in Raleigh. I suppose that it is unusual for people to hire a professional photographer to photograph such a intimate event. This is a shame because I think that everyone deserves a beautiful gallery of wedding photography memories no matter the size of your guest list. I hope that this is a trend that will catch on!
